free German tax check

Privacy policy

1. Controller (Verantwortlicher, Art. 13(1)(a) GDPR)

Maxim Katz, Baumpieperweg 7, 21149 Hamburg, Germany, email: [email protected]. No data protection officer has been appointed, as none is required (Art. 37 GDPR, § 38 BDSG).

2. The check (questionnaire)

All answers are processed only in your browser (JavaScript memory of this tab). They are not sent to us or to anyone else and are not stored in cookies. They are deleted when you close or reload the tab, unless you choose to save a draft on your device (see section 2a). Questions about religion (church tax) and health (disability, care level, medical costs) are special categories under Art. 9 GDPR and are shown only with your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a), Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time by unticking the box; answers are then deleted from the session. Withdrawal does not affect processing before it (Art. 7(3) GDPR). About other persons (relatives, people you care for) we ask only ranges, never names.

2a. Storage in your browser (localStorage)

Only if you actively tick the box “Save my answers on this device” (unticked by default) are your answers stored, and then only locally in your browser’s storage on your device (key ‘zurueck_draft_v1’), so that you can continue the check later. Without your choice, nothing is stored. Answers about health and religion, and your consent to those questions, are never stored. This data is not transmitted to us or to third parties, and we cannot access it. It is deleted automatically when your results are shown, immediately when you untick the box, or via the ‘Delete my saved answers’ button. You can also delete it at any time in your browser settings. Separately, your language choice is stored under the key ‘zlang’ (see section 3). In both cases the legal basis is § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG (strictly necessary for the resume feature you expressly requested).

3. Language setting

Your chosen language is saved in your browser's local storage (key “zlang”) so the site opens in that language. This is strictly necessary for the service you requested (§ 25(2) Nr. 2 TDDDG). Apart from the optional draft described in section 2a, no other browser storage (cookies, localStorage), no analytics, no tracking.

4. Email reminders

We do not currently offer email reminders and do not collect email addresses on this website. We will update this privacy notice before we launch that service.

5. Contact form

If you write to us using the contact form on the Impressum page, we process your email address, your name (optional) and your message only to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in answering enquiries) or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your enquiry relates to a contract. The data is stored in Cloudflare Workers KV (Cloudflare, see section 6) and automatically deleted 6 months after receipt, so that we can match follow-up questions to the same enquiry. We do not store your IP address. To prevent abuse, we keep a pseudonymised (hashed) value of your email address for 10 minutes. The data is not shared with anyone except Cloudflare as our processor. Your rights are listed in section 8; you can ask us to delete your message earlier at any time.

We have not been able to confirm whether this also applies to the operator of the service. US authorities may in some circumstances access the data.
